A NEW RIDE

There are some amazing new bikes on the market. From electric motorcycles, to dirt bikes, to cruisers, and ADV bikes — there’s a bike for everyone on your list. Talk to your local dealership to find out what type of motorcycle or scooter is the best fit. You can even sit on a variety of bikes. An easy way to find your local dealer is by clicking here. Want to get some ideas before you go? Check out our “Motorcycle personality quiz.

There are thousands of options out there and finding the perfect one is part of the fun. Find one (or three) to fit your lifestyle or that of your gift recipient. A visit to your local dealer will give you even more ideas. You can do some online shopping first. Here are a few of the major manufacturers that have been busy helping at Santa’s workshop: BMW, Can-Am, Ducati, Honda, Indian, Kawasaki, KTM, Piaggio, Royal Enfield, Suzuki, Triumph, and Yamaha.

GEAR, GEAR, GEAR

Every rider loves getting new gear, and for those just getting started, the gift of gear can help them get started on the right foot.

For heat’s sake! The best way to extend the riding season is to use heated gear, such as heated gloves, vests, jackets, pants, socks, and more. Many brands of heated gear use a rechargeable battery, so even if you’re out walking the dog, you can wear it for extra warmth. But for some hard-core riders who plan on hours-long chilly rides, you might want to opt for something you can connect to the bike, such as the Hotwired 12v Bluetooth Heated Vest Liner, which, as its name says, offers a Bluetooth app (Apple and Android compatible) with 10 temperature settings. This way, the heat stays on as long as you are riding.

Can you hear me (in your helmet) now? Technological advances in helmets means that you can stay connected even with a helmet on your head. The BILT Techno 3.0 Modular Bluetooth Helmet comes with speakers and a microphone, and is ready to sync with any Bluetooth-enabled device. It has up to 4-way intercom support (to chat with all your riding buddies), voice operated phone, music sharing, phone conference, and more.

But sometimes riders just want to peace and quiet of a ride all to themselves, and there are many highly protective helmets that do just that, like the Arai Regent-X helmet we featured, which comes in 16 different designs.

If you’ve ever wanted to bubble wrap your loved one, an airbag jacket or vest might be what you’re looking for. Klim has its Ai-1 Airbag Vest, the first continually evolving motorcycle protection technology that is driven by artificial intelligence. Klim’s vest also has different modes, so you can set it for Street, Adventure, and Track modes.

Even without airbags, riding jackets and pants offer a lot high-tech fabrics and textiles that help keep riders warm and dry while also offering protection in a slide. Abrasion-resistant materials such as Cordura and Kevlar, and flexible, breathable armor are used so that motorcycle jackets and pants offer plenty of function with fashion.

The REV’IT! Afterburn H2O jacket is a waterproof softshell jacket that looks great on or off the bike. The women’s version has a female-specific fit with a zip-out liner and detachable hood.

TRAINING, THE GIFT THAT KEEPS ON GIVING

Whether you’re looking to get your street license, ride wooded trails on a dirt bike, or do both with an adventure or dual-sport bike, the Motorcycle Safety Foundation has courses for you. Learning a new skill is a gift that keeps on giving, and one that you can always build on.

You can also check your local motorcycle training school to see if you can give them a gift certificate for a class. Find out more about training here.

GIFT OF ADVENTURE

Here’s where proper gift-planning really comes into play because you don’t have to leave yourself out when giving a gift.

Go explore with motorcycle rentals and tours. There are many companies that rent motorcycles, and you can get location and more information here.

Adventure training or track days. Even if the rider in your life has been riding for many years, it’s unlikely they’ll say no to more training, especially if it’s part of a desert adventure, off-road rally tour, or an adrenaline-filled track day. There are many packaged training and touring options out there so they can learn more skills AND have fun. Best part, get it for two, so you can be a part of it, too!
